the front door is just for decoration

we always make our way into the house
across the paved patio blocks
up the wide brick step
& then through the kitchen door

autumn's beauties arranged 'just so'
give us a grand entrance

we usually track sand in with us
& there's not really a good place
to toss our shoes

that's the way it is

๐Ÿ‚

summer morphs very slowly
into autumn by the sea

dried flowers & berries & leaves
mingle freely with
fresh snipped greenery
& little white pumpkins

a huge vintage bottle
corralling the elusive sea glass
knows that she's the star of the show

of course

๐Ÿ‚

this little faux sweetheart
wears my favorite color as she
hangs out with vintage books
bound in hues of blue

a little butter dish
overflowing with sea glass
brings a bit of bling to the party

i smile every time I pass by
this little simple, calming vignette

welcome, dear autumn
i'm so glad you've come once again

you always were my favorite season

    1. Absolutely. Maybe that's why it's good that it's a kind of 3 steps forward, 1 step back transition. But the days are still warm and golden and there's gardening to do, walks to take, windows to keep open.

      I'll take it!

  3. Linda, I love the mix of sea glass, sand dollars and pumpkins -- beautiful. We finally got just a hint of fall in the air and I couldn't wait to break out the fall decorations which make me smile. Enjoyed stopping by your place. Love your touches of blue too :) Blessings, Bev xx

    1. You're prompting me to head down to the basement and see what's in the fall decor tote ... a few blue pumpkins more maybe?

      Thanks, Bev!

  4. We've actually had some mornings of cool temps and low humidity, so yes, even in GA, fall is in the air! I do love your decorations, Linda. Such touches do help to put you in the mood for the change in seasons.

    1. That's good news that even down south your air is cooling and the humidity is easing up. Don't you just love being outside? I can't get enough of it.

Have a lovely weekend, Martha ...

  5. Linda, autumn is my favorite season! We have enjoyed cooler temps and low humidity, but it is only a tease. Summer returns next week with highs in the mid nineties. Love your touches of fall!

  6. Your vignettes are lovely, Linda. I especially love the sand dollars/pumpkins together. It's really quite perfect. Thanks so much for your kind comment on my pot about the Queen. She was quite a woman.

    1. Out of all the things I've read on Queen Elizabeth since her passing, yours is one of my favorites, Jeanie. A beautiful weaving of her life's story, wonderful choices of pictures, so warm and lovely.

My sister and I are going to get together on Monday to watch her final farewell. I think my dad would have been pleased.

  11. Those eye-catching vignettes made me smile, Linda. LOVE your untraditional color scheme for fall, decorating with that restful shade of blue--perfect for a seaside home. I agree--fall just might be my favorite season, when temps cool and humidity clears. Winter and spring each have their own desirable qualities also. As for summer? We lived in FL for 40 years, providing enough summer to last at least three lifetimes!

Thanks for the visit! Your teacup is perfect for honouring Queen Elizabeth II.

  15. Warm, cozy friend is Autumn! Our front door is mainly for decor, too! Our friends and family always come through the side porch! It's always a bit of a surprise when there's a knock on the front door!

    1. My hunt continues, Lynn! Meanwhile, I'll settle for the three fake ones I took out of the rubbermaid tote. I know they exist in real life and hoping that I'll find one in the next few weeks. Supplies are limited in these sandy soils ... it's hard to grow anything!

  19. Linda, my phone tells me it's currently 94 degrees here, but these lovely thoughts gives me hope that fall will come to stay soon. I appreciate the edit you made to your post about grief memoirs, but for whatever it's worth, I can totally relate to the sentiment behind your original statement. :-)

  20. Ahhh, Linda. Your little blue darling is so fun. Fall hasn't made an appearance here yet. Yesterday, we were at almost 90. In September. In Colorado. Crazy. But, we're supposed to dip into a day with a high in the low 60's tomorrow. That is the Colorado I know—cold and hot, often in the same week. ;) Your autumsn sound stunning!
