Come Hungry

He restores my soul;
He leads me in paths
of righteousness for
His name's sake.
Psalm 23:3

We come hungry.

Often we know we are famished.  Parched in spirit.  Other times we don't fully comprehend the impact of the yawning emptiness within.

Our quest for relief becomes relentlessly misguided as we head down yet another wrong path, looking for some thing, some feeling, some person that will satisfy.  We crave a quick fix, an easy solution, a rush of dopamine, a sugar high, the applause of the crowd.

But only God.

He quenches the thirst and fills the aching void.  He Himself is our ultimate satisfaction, our living water, our spiritual manna, the source of life itself.

Holy Spirit, please do what You do best - comfort, refresh, convict, prompt, guide, protect, calm, and strengthen.  Delight us with Your refreshing presence.  We hunger and thirst for more of You.

Mold us and re-make us to look more like Jesus.  For His name's sake.  Amen and amen.

  1. After my sermon this past Sunday on Sloth (I used it to talk about spiritual laziness and took it away from only physical laziness) I had someone meet me in my office yesterday for just this issue. He was hungry and distant from God and didn't know what to do. Ironically, (not coincidentally) I had worked that morning on the Beatitude in Mt. 5:6- "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness." You are right Linda. Come. Be filled.

    1. Bill, good morning. How often we didn't even know what we were hungry for ... and it usually wasn't righteousness. How blessed we are when we discover the spiritual feast God has for us, a feast that strengthens our souls and spills out to every other area of our lives.

  15. Hungry is one thing I'm not
for in these days I walk with God,
    and surprisingly I got
    over being over-awed,
for really He's a friendly bloke,
    strolling at my now-slowed pace,
and not above a gentle joke
    about my mirror-breaking face.
We talk at length of ins and outs
of cactus wrens upon the wing,
    and occasionally He shouts
    an invitation that will bring
a roadrunner to cross our path,
and says "Beep-beep!" to make me laugh.

    1. Yep, I'm finding that God is gently present during these low energy, slower-paced days. You just have a more fun way of expressing it than I do, Andrew.
