Dear Generous, Voracious Readers ~
When I asked you last month to please help me find some books for my friend who wanted a few Christ-centered inspirational non-fiction reads, you guys were off and running, checking your overflowing night tables and assortment of reading journals, random piles and organized bookshelves and dusty under the bed stashes.
And no surprise at all, the best of the best titles tumbled from your wise and generous hearts to hers.
How could I NOT compile a complete list for your persusal? What a selection you've treasured and passed on, not only to my gentle, tender friend who continues her valiant fight against cancer, but to our community here ... and those we connect with.
Praise be.

What a list, Linda! There are so many titles I had not heard of, and a few I had. Hope this was a huge help to your friend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Agreed ... so many titles I had not heard of! I'm finding that my library system has many of these authors. YES!
DeleteI haven't read any of these...they're all a bit too deep for me, and I have a pretty short attention sp...oh, look, a SQUIRREL!
ReplyDeleteThis has been quite hard to face;
to deny that would be lying,
but there's unexpected grace
to know that I am dying,
and that more doors are closing
than can ever be reopened,
but sorrow is surmising
that my fate's not to be broken
to a Will that I can't see,
and only dimply feel,
but in defeat there's victory,
and the illusion now is real,
for through what I don't understand
there is Someone who holds my hand.
And isn't that we always yearned for ... Someone who would hold our hand ... and never let go.
DeleteWhat a resource! And I kept saying, "Oh, I'd forgotten that one!" Gotta find a way to keep this list handy!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya'! I need to print mine out and keep it where I can grab it easily!
DeleteThanks for compiling the list Linda. Definitely some books in here I want to read!
ReplyDeleteOh good! I'm glad ...
DeleteLinda, I so appreciate the care with which you assembled this list. Many solid authors sharing much profound and comforting truth. When I suggested "Gentle & Lowly," I had barely begun reading it. I'm working through it with a friend, accompanied by a study guide we found online. I'm going slowly, reading parts out loud to Randy and underlining a great deal. I can see now why it topped many "Best of" book lists from 2020 ... it's a gem, for sure.
ReplyDeleteYou guys did all the legwork! I just pulled together all your recommendations and hit the publish button. Or almost ...
DeleteSo glad you've found a gem and have sent it our way, Lois. I'm guessing we might hear more about it as you write in the days ahead.
Thank you so much for sharing the wealth of recommendations here, Linda! I too own a few already and am familiar with a few more, BUT lots more to explore. Just like you, I'm going to print the list and put it in the TBP folder!
ReplyDeleteIt truly is a wealth, isn't it. You guys are the best community ever! I never could have dreamed up even half of these volumes.
Delete2021 reading is looking up, for sure {in more ways than one!}
I am bookmarking this page. Thank you so much for your generous compilation of this list. I will have reading material for years!
ReplyDeleteThank YOU for the three titles you contributed, Laurie. All are by authors I want to get to know much better. I'm starting to get excited about the impact of this list ...
DeleteGod knows we need books to touch our souls these days, not just entertain us or fill a void.
Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteThinking of you.
Always enjoy your blog. Always thought-provoking.
I wanted to add the book, "The Path of Loneliness", by Elisabeth Elliot, which I am currently enjoying.
Had known about her from my childhood, as we had a copy of "The Savage My Kinsman", about the days after her husband was killed.
Had not realized she ended up having 3 husbands! One at a time, of course! Finding this book encouraging and comforting.

Thanks for jumping right on in and sharing another Elisabeth Elliot book. I am ready to get reading these old classics.
Delete;-}
Linda, this list is such a gift! Thank you for compiling and sharing it with us all. I am emailing this to myself so I have it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad!
DeleteWonderful list! Thank you for putting this together for us, too!
ReplyDeleteThere would have been no list without you guys!
DeleteYou're the best!
Great list of books! I've read about 1/3 of these titles. Now my TBR list is getting longer! LOL
ReplyDelete1/3! Wow!
DeleteToo impressive. You're inspiring me to make this my go-to reading list in 2021, Rebecca ...
What a great collection! I've only read a few of these but I've heard good things about several of the others. Praying for your friend as she continues her treatment, and that she finds just the right words of encouragement from some of these books.
ReplyDeleteThanks for continuing those prayers as treatments continue, Lesley. A rough road ... a big God.
DeleteLinda thank you for this list. So many more books to add to my growing pile of books to be read. Blessings.
ReplyDeletePaula, welcome! I'm so glad you're here ...
DeleteLinda, such a fabulous resource! Many of these books are my best friends that I visit with often. Thank you for putting these all in one place!
ReplyDeleteDonna, I love seeing these books as best friends. I intend to make that happen this year ...
DeleteThank you for creating a space for these books to be shared! Continuing to pray for your friend! Carla
ReplyDeleteI'll be texting her soon and will tell her exactly that, Carla. Thank you for your faithfulness, friend ...
DeleteLinda, I love that you put this list here. I've read some of them, and I see others that are calling to me. I will be adding them to my TBR list. I'm saying a prayer for your friend today.
ReplyDeletePrayers mean everything, don't they. And what a gift to give another soul you haven't even met.
DeleteGod smiles.
What a fanastic list! Many I have heard of (and have been wanting/meaning to read) and quite a few that are new to me. I look forward to checking them. Confession: I am much better at "checking them out" than actually reading books. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteAlso, loved your previous post from the porch!! Perfect use of my time...and some hot tea!!
Hot tea makes everything just a bit sweeter and more relaxing, doesn't it, Jennifer! I always love that you share what you're eating and drinking when you are creating a post.
DeleteHow warm and homey!
;-}
What a super list and many I have read and own. Found some newer ones too, Thanks for sharing this list!
ReplyDeleteI know you're an avid reader, Jean, so I really appreciate your encouraging words! It's always serendipitous to find a book that we've never even heard of ... and just KNOW it'll speak directly to our soul.
DeleteHappy weekend, friend ...
