Your 38 Gifts of Inspiration

Dear Generous, Voracious Readers ~

When I asked you last month to please help me find some books for my friend who wanted a few Christ-centered inspirational non-fiction reads, you guys were off and running, checking your overflowing night tables and assortment of reading journals, random piles and organized bookshelves and dusty under the bed stashes.

And no surprise at all, the best of the best titles tumbled from your wise and generous hearts to hers.

How could I NOT compile a complete list for your persusal?  What a selection you've treasured and passed on, not only to my gentle, tender friend who continues her valiant fight against cancer, but to our community here ... and those we connect with.

Praise be.

  2. I haven't read any of these...they're all a bit too deep for me, and I have a pretty short attention sp...oh, look, a SQUIRREL!

    This has been quite hard to face;
to deny that would be lying,
    but there's unexpected grace
to know that I am dying,
and that more doors are closing
    than can ever be reopened,
    but sorrow is surmising
that my fate's not to be broken
    to a Will that I can't see,
    and only dimply feel,
    but in defeat there's victory,
and the illusion now is real,
for through what I don't understand
there is Someone who holds my hand.

    1. And isn't that we always yearned for ... Someone who would hold our hand ... and never let go.

  5. Linda, I so appreciate the care with which you assembled this list. Many solid authors sharing much profound and comforting truth. When I suggested "Gentle & Lowly," I had barely begun reading it. I'm working through it with a friend, accompanied by a study guide we found online. I'm going slowly, reading parts out loud to Randy and underlining a great deal. I can see now why it topped many "Best of" book lists from 2020 ... it's a gem, for sure.

    1. You guys did all the legwork! I just pulled together all your recommendations and hit the publish button. Or almost ...

So glad you've found a gem and have sent it our way, Lois. I'm guessing we might hear more about it as you write in the days ahead.

    1. Thank YOU for the three titles you contributed, Laurie. All are by authors I want to get to know much better. I'm starting to get excited about the impact of this list ...

God knows we need books to touch our souls these days, not just entertain us or fill a void.

  8. Hi Linda,

    Thinking of you.

Always enjoy your blog.  Always thought-provoking.

I wanted to add the book, "The Path of Loneliness", by Elisabeth Elliot, which I am currently enjoying.

Had known about her from my childhood, as we had a copy of "The Savage My Kinsman", about the days after her husband was killed.

Had not realized she ended up having 3 husbands!  One at a time, of course!  Finding this book encouraging and comforting.

  17. What a fanastic list! Many I have heard of (and have been wanting/meaning to read) and quite a few that are new to me. I look forward to checking them. Confession: I am much better at "checking them out" than actually reading books. Sigh.

Also, loved your previous post from the porch!! Perfect use of my time...and some hot tea!!
