Porch #79 * Remembering Heather

  PORCH
a soft place to land
a calm weekend haven
a gentle pause from life's busyness
so we may experience
the tender lovingkindness of Jesus
as we do life together
in community

let me photograph you
in this light
in case it is the last time
that we might be
exactly like we were

  15. All the days still seem alive,
    I can feel warmth on your skin;
    how, now, friend, this fatal dive,
    and please tell, how I begin
    to live a world without your voice?
    Something's really so so wrong.
    Why did God go make this choice?
    Did He figure we'd be strong
    and brave like gilded paper saints,
    or the hooh-haas on TV?
    Let me tell you, that it ain'ts
    the way it works for you and me.
    We may get cheap expulcation,
    but need, at end Dynamic explanation.

    1. Aargh. Writing with pneumonia...the last two lines should read:

      We may get cheap exculpation,
      but need Your Divine explanation.

  16. Losing a friend is one of those griefs that is often overlooked; I mean, we don't get 3 days off from work when a friend dies, no? But friends are our chosen family. When a friend dies they take a part of us, our history, with them. But they also leave a part of them, and their history, with us. Heather now lives on in you... through the blogpost about books that others have found comfort in and through the virtues in her life that you so admired and loved and continue to live out in her honor. Peace to you and peace to Heather's memory. Carla

Your happy smiles and tilted heads toward one another speak of the tender friendship you enjoyed for well over thirty years.
