Good sunny Saturday morning to you, friend!
Back in the deep mid-winter of February 2008, I took my first extremely tentative steps into the blogging world. The anniversary of my quite unremarkable debut tip-toed up quietly again this week, tapped me on the shoulder, pulled at my heartstrings. In some ways I'm surprised to still be pecking away at the keyboard after all these years, dreaming up something of value every week or so to offer you.
But when I think about it for just a bit, it's not at all a surprise.I love blogging. Period.
I know, I know, there are many voices out there that say it's passe, old-school, and completely outdated. Honestly, I can't help but be just a tad offended and a bit insulted when I hear those kind of descriptors. But honestly, we're all not published writers, podcast whizzes, instagram gold, or paid subscription newsletter editors.
We're simply folk who love the experience of fingertips tumbling over keyboards, dialoguing in the comment sections, jumping into the weekly link-ups, visiting other writers, championing their work, learning from their creative wisdom.
Doing life together with room for plenty of conversation along the way.
Blogging has become as natural as the air I breathe and I enjoy the connection with like-minded spirits, the iron-sharpening iron relationships that have taken root with so many of you over the years.
Blogging's been a faithful, steady companion, a comfort of sorts during unwieldy transitions, seasons of grief, and random uncertainties. And more than ever, continuing to cultivate the blogging life has been a God-given lifeline to the normal rhythms, the weekly cadence that we've all yearned for during these troubled months.
Along the way, I've become an attentive student, a grateful beneficiary of all your wisdom, life experience, creativity, humor ... and most of all, your passionate walk with our Lord and Friend, Jesus.

For sure I've learned much along the way, like writing when I have something to say and not because there's some kind of life-draining schedule mandating it. I've learned that mentoring others and having others mentor me is always a needed call. I've become more aware of unpleasant emotions like fear or jealousy that can raise their ugly heads at the oddest times. And I've learned what to do with those unwelcome calling cards.
I talk about the tendency toward sloppy boundaries and tyrannical numbers and misplaced focus right over here ... and I came up with 6 keys to help you be the boss of your blog which you can read right over there.
I hope you'll head on over to these links when you have a few more minutes. Maybe some of my hard-earned lessons will save you a bit of angst along your own long term writing pathway ... or help you navigate your ongoing creative interactions.

Here's to many more years of writing our hearts out, doing life together, one encouraging / wise / witty / godly / perceptive conversation at a time. May Jesus Christ be praised.

P.S. And speaking of blogging, here's some recent offerings from sister bloggers that hit home for me. Both new aquaintances and long time comrades, their words are worth your time. And please tell them Linda sent you!

I am glad you are part of my blogging community, Lynda! There are times I've wanted to stop blogging, wondering what is the point when I have not yet published a book (except for journals). But my why to blog is the community and to flex my writing muscle. Recently I migrated my blog, however my subscribers got lost in the migration, but I know my community is still out there, so I am grateful!
ReplyDeleteWell if anyone around here got lost in the migration, Lynn's site is https://lynnjsimpson.com/. Her thoughtful words are well-crafted and warm ... and her photography is to die for!
DeleteCongratulations on your blogging anniversary and thank you for continuing to pour wisdom and grace into your words and our lives. You are a light in a dim world. P.S. thanks for including my blog with this wonderful group of writers. xx
ReplyDeleteYou've done such a fascinating job in re-imagining your life and your blog and your creative handiwork in the last year, Debby! It's such a pleasure to see how you've bloomed and blossomed in your new home town.
DeleteLove it.
Congratulations on your blogging anniversary! I could echo many of the pearls of wisdom you're learned along the way. I love blogging, too, and I am mystified at those that say "Blogging is dead." I don't know where they are looking, but the blogging world seems alive and well to me. Learning from readers and other bloggers and forming deep friendships have all been blessings of the blogging life.
ReplyDeleteYou hit the nail right on the head when you said this, Barbara --> 'I don't know where they are looking, but the blogging world seems alive and well to me.'
DeleteAmen! And I'm so grateful for the rhythm and rhyme it's added to our lives in this topsy-turvy year ...
You can take your bloody podcasts,
ReplyDeleteand Instagram (so crass!),
and Pinterest is fading fast,
so shove it up your...whatever.
The only way I know your soul,
and know your God-filled dreams
is through your words, and not some poll,
and not through dimwit memes.
So please stay on the blogging trail,
because there are still those
whose attention spans will not fail
at the questions that you pose;
when you share your heart, so brave and true,
we will damned well reach back to you.
Well, thank you for your rather colorful ode, Andrew! Let's all stay on that blogging trail together. We're in good company as we move ahead ...
DeleteCongrats on 13 years. I'll be celebrating 13 in March, I believe. There are many bloggers who have quit but many more that keep plugging away. I need to do some searching and find some more blogs that are out there to enjoy. Here's a post from Tim Challies on Why You Shouldn't Stop Blogging,
ReplyDeletehttps://www.challies.com/articles/why-you-shouldnt-stop-blogging-or-why-you-should-consider-starting/
Yes, Ellen, I love that article by Challies ... especially how he speaks to relationship building. Speaking about more blogs out there to enjoy, check out the ones at the bottom of the post ... and click on all these commenters.
DeleteA rich feast, for sure ...
Happy Anniversary! Your words resonated with me. Blogging so helps sort out my thoughts and I learn and grow from the words of others. Yes, to iron sharpening iron. And in multiple ways. May many more years of writing be in your future.
ReplyDeleteLikewise, Theresa. So grateful our paths are crossing more in this season. Your featured post above is a fabulous reason why.
DeleteBless you!
Linda, congratulations on your blogging anniversary. I love seeing you in my inbox and experiencing your wisdom that you share. Wishing you many more fruitful years my friend!
ReplyDeletePam, thank you for bringing beauty into my life with each and every post you pen. Your creativity in decor and nature and photography is food for the eyes and peace for the soul.
DeleteI always rest a bit when I come visit you ...
Happy Blogging Anniversary, Linda! You and your writing are so dear to me, and I always look forward with eagerness to every post. You've certainly stretched and inspired me to continue to grow in my writing and in my walk with Jesus.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Yes, we stretch each other, friend. Don't we! Those are the best kind of relationships - in person ... and here online.
DeleteBless you.
Wonderful blessing your blog has been to me in the 4-5 years I’ve been following. Congrats on 13 years. Gail
ReplyDeleteAnd I was so glad when you felt comfortable in joining into the conversation, Gail. Many of your words to me have been like water to a thirsty soul and I'm grateful our paths continue to cross ...
DeleteI am absolutely with you on this, particularly with that disgruntled feeling when the experts announce the death of blogging. I have started a newsletter because I've been told it's the thing to do, but there's nothing like the gathering that happens in the comments section. And I love all the friends I've made through my blog!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Michele! I knew I couldn't be the only one who felt more than slightly put out by words written by those who've hit the big time toward us 'little people' ... the very ones who helped champion the creative work that took them there!
Delete'Nuff said.
And you know I love your newsletter. May it grow and prosper.
Congratulations on your 13 years of blogging! I'm so glad to have connected with you here, and I agree with your thoughts on blogging. I have learned so much and grown a lot through this wonderful community and I'm always grateful for your words.
ReplyDeleteI love how we've connected over the sea, Lesley. Every time I stop by to see you, I think of my father and how fascinated he would have been to know that I have a friend from his home country.
DeleteYour simple presence brings him closer to me. I like that.
Congratulations on 13 years, Linda. I love being a part of your blogging community. I always feel such a safe and warm welcome here. Thank you. Love and blessings to you!
ReplyDeleteSafe and warm and welcome. Good! That's what I want for us all as we come and go from each other's online homes. I find that at your gently lovely place as well, friend!
DeleteBless you!
congrats!! I didn't start until 2009 so you have me beat. I sure am blessed to connect with you and read your blog each time, Thank you for linking one of my posts too.
ReplyDeleteI loved that Mentor Texts post! So much rich food for thought. I need to sit down with it yet another time and see how I can enfold it into my life. I've got a few authors in mind.
DeleteThanks, Jean!
Congratulations on your blogging anniversary! We started around the same time—it was August 2008 for me.
ReplyDeleteYay! I'd love to hear how blogging has morphed and changed for you as the years have progressed, Linda ...
DeleteMeanwhile, I'm grateful to have connected with you in recent months. Your writing draws me in each and every time. I so resonate with where you find yourself ...
Ah, friend, thanks for these reflections and wise words and celebrations. I feel similarly about the blogging community. Some of my sisters in the community "feel" closer in heart than friends that I interact with in my own neighborhood. Blogging introduced me to you and that is certainly a gift. I began my blogging adventure with trepidation as well nearly 6 years ago, but cannot recall when I first discovered you. Each time I stop by I enjoy the "conversation" and look forward to one day seeing you in person even if that must wait till heaven. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember for the life of me how I met you either, Pam! But it wasn't long 'til I considered you a friend and a mentor. You've poured so much wisdom into my soul on every level. I am beyond grateful when our paths cross during this untold season.
DeleteBless you for the way you've impacted countless lives during your many years of ministry, counseling, writing.
I'm coming up on ten years this year and am always taken a bit by surprise at the amount of content I've produced over the years, lol. I have heard that some are actually returning to blogging as other forums have become more controlling of the content. You have a vast tribe and I always enjoy visiting your corner of the blogsphere :) Keep writing, friend, your story matters. <3 :)
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting about people returning to blogging, June. I'd love to hear their stories why they moved on ... and what's drawn them back into the fold.
DeleteSometimes a good long break can be good for the soul. But I think I'd be lost without the structure, the outlet, the connection, the blessing blogging has become.
And so thankful for friends like you who've become such an important part of my life, yes, even from afar off.
Time flies when you are having fun. Congrats Linda on 13 years.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bill!
DeleteLong time blogger you have been dear lady. So glad I have been blessed to get to you know you some by blogging. I wanted to pop in and say hello and to tell you my 2nd eye surgery went well. Laying low with long term eye strain but had to stop by. Thank you for praying for me. Your prayers meant so much. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing the good news! God keeps you close to my heart and I praised Him as soon as I got your comment. Please do lay low, rest well. All your friends and fans will be there when you return!
DeleteBless.
Linda, like you, I am so grateful to have found wisdom from others who blog. My walk with God has grown because what I have learned as they gleaned from the Lord along the way. Happy Anniversary and may you keep sharing your gift with us all!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. My faith has been stretched and grown because of writers who share God's Word, their faith walk, and their own spiritual growth stories. I'm so grateful.
DeleteAnd for you and the gift you have in sharing His Word week in and week out.
Bless you, Joanne.
Linda, congratulations on 13 years of blogging! I am so thankful I found this community of Christian bloggers like you. You have strengthened and deepened my faith by asking questions that made me think about my relationship with God. The friendships that have formed have kept me going, especially during this pandemic year. Here's to blogging!
ReplyDeleteOh Laurie, you're so right ... blogging has been sheer gift this last year. For many of us, it was one of the few things that didn't drastically change. That ongoing sense of community kept us steady and focused and assured us that all would be well Even during the dark weeks.
DeleteSo grateful we get to rub shoulders each week or so. Your passion for running fuels my own desire to be physically active ... walking that is. Not running!
;-}
Bless you!
Congratulations, Linda on your blogging anniversary! What an amazing accomplishment, and so much wisdom to offer as a result. Great tips on being the boss of your blog. As a new blogger, I so appreciate your wisdom and encouragement! May God bless you with many more years investing in others for His Kingdom. Thank you for the tremendous blessing of the mention here on your blog, it is an honor to be among so many fine writers. Your kindness to me fills me with joy and gratitude!
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Donna! Your writing is wise and exquisite ... I look forward to getting to know you better in 2021.
DeleteHappy blogiversary! Your blog is a teenager!
ReplyDeleteI'm a hobby blogger, and I've considered switching to another format (like Instagram)for my tea posts, but I stay because of the great friends I've made in Blogland.
A few years ago, I saw a post that says blogging is actually making a comeback because people are getting tired of social media.
'Your blog is a teenager!'
DeleteThat's cute, Margie!
I think there just might be more bloggers out there than we might imagine. I think we're in very good company no matter what the naysayers say ...
Linda,
ReplyDeleteHappy Blogiversary! I thought I'd be at this for awhile having logged nine years. Sure I've taken my timeouts and my sabbaticals, but still I come back. There's something about the written word which I'll always love. I truly enjoy your insights and have benefited from your "iron-sharpeining-iron" encouragement.Keep up the great work!
Blessings,
Bev xx
Beth, that's the secret to staying around a long time ... those timeouts and sabbaticals. We get to live life unplugged and come back raring to go. Best advice ever, friend.
DeleteBurn out is not a friend to our creativity, our writing, our ministries ...
Congrats on your Blogiversary! I hope you had time to look back, appreciate today and look ahead to all the good things God has in store. I sure am grateful you keep putting words on the screen! xo
ReplyDeleteAnd you KNOW I love your writing, friend. It's good to see you again!

Happy Saturday, Linda! I'm not always timely when it comes to commenting (groan), but I love blogging too--for all the reasons you mention. The first post of yours that I remember reading was the one where you talked about packing up the house you'd lived in for 45 (or was it 40?) years and moving to be closer to your parents. What a journey you've been on since then, and I am grateful to have been a part of it through your blog. You've definitely got something special going on here, my friend. Thanks for including my post in your list of links, and here's to many more years of blogging together!
ReplyDeleteWow! That was 5 1/2 years ago in the middle of a series of endless transitions. Thanks for hanging in there with me, Lois.
DeleteThe journey becomes sweeter and more significant when shared with others. I'm so grateful we've been able to walk side by side during both good times ... and the not so good.
I'm grateful for your steadying, wise presence in my life!
You explain blogging and its community beautifully! It's interactive; it's encouragement; it's relationship - and everything else you write! I started in 2009 - it's been everything you say it is - and when we put God in the driver's seat - it's a priceless endeavor! Happy 13!!!!
ReplyDeleteNothing of any value would be happening if God wasn't right in the driver's seat. That I know for sure ...
DeleteBlogging is an avenue to share expressions with like-minded people in a world where everyone is rushing and very few take the time to listen with open-mindedness to what others have to say.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Trinity. So well said. We're all yearning for open hearts, listening ears, and empathetic responses that point us to the Savior.
DeleteI'm so glad you're here today and hope it won't be long til you return! Blessings to you as we head into 2022.
